Rights CoLab co-founder Joanne Bauer is co-author on a new report from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), From Fragmentation to Integration: Embedding Social Issues in Sustainable Finance. This report, geared to policymakers and everyone else concerned with a Just Transition, highlights the connections between socio-economic inequalities and climate- and environmental-related financial risks. It highlights many of the issues that Rights CoLab is working on, such as:

  • More research is needed on inequality as an early-warning indicator for financial crises – highlighting the role of income and wealth inequality as potential factors of instability.
  • Investors need better support to assess the financial materiality of social and inequality-related risks – as well as opportunities for investing in solutions.
  • The achievement of climate goals depends on tackling severe social inequality.
