Are you a human rights defender with a background in law, journalism, or civic activism? Are you interested in deepening your knowledge of business and human rights (BHR) and conducting applied research with expert support?

Rights CoLab and Araminta invite you to apply for a comprehensive training and research program on business and human rights and corporate accountability designed specifically for Russian human rights defenders in exile.

Program Overview: 

  • In-Person Training: June 3–6, 2025 | Zakopane, Poland
    Led by Joanne Bauer, Rights CoLab Cofounder and Shauna Curphey, Rights CoLab Partner, this intensive training will equip participants with essential knowledge and tools to navigate the intersection of business and human rights.
  • Funded Research Phase (4–6 months)
    Among participants, some will be chosen for a subgrant to design and carry out an original research project that supports a current or future BHR initiative. Individual as well as small group projects will be considered. 
  • Ongoing Mentorship
    Participants in the research phase will receive regular remote mentoring sessions from BHR experts throughout the project period.
  • Final Workshop
    An in-person workshop at the conclusion of the research phase will offer space to present findings, explore long-term collaborations, and consider future project partnerships.

Eligibility: 

  • Strong background in human rights in any field, including law, journalism, or activism;
  • Ability to attend the in-person training (June 3–6, 2025);
  • Demonstrated interest in business and human rights;
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English (professional working level);
  • For the research phase: Ability to commit 20–30% time over 4–6 months.

The training is free for eligible participants from Russia, thanks to donor support. Participants from other backgrounds may be considered but must cover their own costs.

Participation in the research phase is selective and not required to attend the training.

English will be the working language for all activities and materials.
